Robotic Arm
Objective
It was time to get a grip on remote sensing and actuation of surgical robots in healthcare to help people living in rural areas of Canada who have generally poorer health and shorter life expectancies. This is an issue because the population of these areas must travel long distances for proper medical services.
By conducting the proper research, the use of remote surgery would allow specialists, anyone, regardless of their knowledge in medicine, to perform procedures themselves. More specifically, this research focuses on the imperative task of sterilization: a process in which instruments are placed in a container that allows exposure to pressurized steam.
The results of the project will have a positive impact on these rural areas of Canada as the process of sterilization is now designed to be completely automated.
